Butterflies at my Fingertips

Friday, May 13, 2011

In trying to hurl myself out of this little creative rut o' mine
I did a bad, bad thing.
I went on a serious stone buying binge!
Parcels came in from all over our great country this week,
delivering into these little hands stones of the most
fantastical colors,
glorious shapes
and
so full of inspiration!

I'm like a little girl with a fresh box of Crayola crayons.
Just opened, a scent so distinct and heavenly, you could drown in it.
Getting lost in a sea of color so rich you can't decide which to use first.
The color!
I've become greedy for it- everything has been so grey to these eyes lately.
Now, my world seems back to it's technicolor self.
Thank goodness!
Thank these little bits of portable inspiration too:)
Some of this weeks loot:

2 Laguna Agates and
an Agua Nueva Nodular Agate

Indonesian Drusies

Dryhead Agate and Laguna Agate

2 Apple Green Chrysoprase and
a stunning Idaho Prudent Man Plume Agate

2 Dendritic Opals

 Dryhead Agate, Laguna Agate and
Imperial Jasper

I want to bite them. They are that delicious. Seriously!
I feel the tickle beginning-
I'll have butterflies at my fingertips soon enough.
Dancing across the metal, working their magic.
Soon enough, indeed...

Caught Up...

Friday, April 29, 2011

Long time, no see. Or hear. Or maybe read is more appropriate.
Whatever the case may be,
I thought I'd share a few shots of some upcoming pieces I've been working on.
I feel like I've been caught up in a creative block riptide as of late.
The moment I feel it let up a bit and I think that I'm swimming towards freedom,
I'm pulled under.
Again.
It is one of the most frustrating and downright painful periods for any artist.
And I am in the throes of a particularly nasty battle with the undertow right now.

Still, I must create. Must go on.
If I can somehow relax into it and keep the faith,
I'll hit the shore eventually.
This I know to be true.
These are my glimpses at the shoreline...

The Pacific is Calling...

Thursday, March 10, 2011

I've been a little homesick lately and, hence, missing the SoCal shoreline terribly.
I am a slave to the Pacific ocean, you see.
At least I have an abundance of treasured memories to sift through.
For instance:
A breathtaking Zuma beach sunset - the beach was set aflame by the sun- made even more incredible by a pod of 7 dolphins frolicking in the surf!!
Had I not pinched myself, I might have thought I was dreaming:)

These longings have transformed into a deep love for a stone called Larimar.
The color reminds me so much of my beloved ocean that I'm starting to wonder if somehow the sea is being held captive in stone.
It's beautiful.
Period.

Scrumdiddlyumptiousness!

Sunday, March 6, 2011

I had to share some photos of my newest stones!!
They are insanely beautiful- at least I think so:)
Oh, and don't ya think that
scrumdiddlyumptious
is just the best word ever?
Drusies make the world go round:)

Laguna agate with a perfect, petite white heart on it's side!
Coyamito with ketchup and mustard and sagenite spraaaays!

Agua, Coyamito and Laguna, oh my:)

I'm so in love with this rock! I call it my "Lovers Laguna". Can you see the kissing couple in the center of the stone? Swoon...

A gorgeous Ethiopian opal with fire for days!
2 more drusies- one can NEVER have enough of these babies.

A lovely Owyhee opal and a stunning Plume agate.

Lastly, Morgan Hill poppy jasper. Yum.

Also: My one year Etsyversary is coming up!

Thank you guys for a whole year of loveliness!

Tawny

My little ones

Tuesday, September 14, 2010

My newest batch of inspiration and obsession. I always get a little starry eyed when I sort through my stones. They each have a life and a voice of their own. Sometimes a whisper, sometimes a shout, but they are all
lovely
They deserve to go out into the world and have adventures instead of sitting in a box.

So I sort through the masses, speaking softly to them all the while.

"Don't worry my little ones, you will all have your turn. These hands and the fruits of their labors will set you all free. I promise."

Some of their new homes in raw form:

One of the things I love most about creating these little stories, what I call each piece I make, is taking a pile of raw materials and turning them into something beautiful.
It's a form of magic to me.

And I am so thankful for it!
And for all of my little stones who wait patiently for me to hear their songs.

I am always listening...

Tawny
